Blue Bonnet Dainties ~ RARE 1910s Candy Cookbook E Dobbs Kingsville TX
Extremely rare vintage candy cookbook ~ Blue Bonnet Dainties ~ recipes compiled by Elizabeth M. Dobbs, 45 pages (with a nice alphabetical recipe index at the end). On the ffep it reads: "For the Benefit of Home Missions in Texas". Softcover with gray paper wrappers. Not dated, circa 1910s-1920s. Published by The Tex-Mex Printery in Kingsville, Texas. Contains 147 recipes including some unusual and nearly forgotten treats like: Patience Candy, Hunky Dory, Tit-Bits, Stuffed Marshmallows, Candied Violets, Orange Crystals, Candied Cranberries and much more. Handwritten recipe for Chocolate Pudding (Marie) on last page.
I have looked
and looked and cannot find a single reference mentioning this book, not even a
copy in a library. I've looked under the title as shown, and also with Bluebonnet
as a single word and found nothing. And only one or two references to the
Tex-Mex Printery in Kingsville, Texas from 1920. An extraordinary piece of
Texana in addition to being a virtually one-of-a-kind candy cookbook find! What
a treasure!
Condition as shown,
a bit of spotting to covers, small amount of minor damage to edges of covers,
binding secure, no torn pages, no loose pages, faint and relatively minor
spotting to a few pages else pages generally clean and unmarked... overall in
amazing condition.
